Sixth grade culminated their Individuals & Societies unit on regenerative agriculture by designing permaculture maps for the 23 acres on our Mack campus. Permaculture is a gardening and farming technique; a conscious design and maintenance of agriculturally diverse, stable, and productive systems.
Students went through specific steps to plan their maps. They walked and observed the land, gathered and analyzed soil samples, and envisioned the possibilities for the land. The future of campus might hold a fruit tree orchard, bee colonies, fungus farms, goats that can graze, be milked and their waste used for fertilizer, and swales to divert water to additional gardens. Great job 6th grade — way to grow!
