Belonging, Justice, Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (BeJEDI)

Commitment Statement

At Mackintosh Academy – Boulder, we believe a sense of belonging is fundamental to learning. We believe our community has an opportunity to create meaningful change in the world, and a duty to engage students with the hard truths that underlie systems of oppression and injustice. Students need to respect themselves and others, listen actively, think critically, build resiliency, take responsibility, understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right, and to graduate as empathetic and informed change makers. This work is core to our mission: to grow keen minds, foster compassionate hearts, and inspire global action. As such, we commit to creating an equitable community in which each person feels a strong sense of belonging. Every person at Mack deserves to learn and work in an environment where they are seen, safe, affirmed, and supported.

We pledge to use our individual and institutional privileges and power to dismantle systems of oppression and promote justice, both within and outside of our community.  We commit to regularly evaluating and refining our curricula, policies, and practices. We also commit to measuring and expanding resources to ensure we embody our beliefs every day. We want our students, teachers, parents, and partners to be enriched by a culture of safety, diverse perspectives, respectful conflict, confidence in their individual and collective ability to create change, and the expectation for nothing less.

We will engage our community in ongoing shared learning experiences. Because we recognize that our goals and approach will evolve with research, reflection, and action, we will share our process and progress with our community and develop concrete measures that manifest our investment in these values in authentic, impactful, and intentional ways to ensure that our work remains relevant and informed.

We are all students. We are all change makers. We have work to do.
