Second graders began their unit on geometry and fractals last week. They gained new vocabulary to describe 3D shapes such as vertices, edges, and faces, and learned about radial and bilateral symmetry. They used pattern blocks to make designs displaying different types of symmetry. The class then learned about the nature-inspired artist, Andy Goldsworthy. Moved by his work, students created mandalas and radial symmetry by gathering and using objects that they found in nature around campus. The results are stunning!
