Tom Brozovich, USN Veteran & Mack Boulder Grandparent
When, Where, How Did You Serve?
Supply Corps Officer, US Navy, 1974-1989, primarily West Coast (Pic above was from Lieutenant, Supply Corps, USN. Resigned my commission at level of Commander in 1989).
Do you have any meaningful/impactful moments or stories you would like to share?
As a shipboard Naval Officer, I learned the importance of clear, effective communication to ensure mission completion; and that good morale is predicated on teamwork, mutual respect and celebration of cultural diversity.
What would you like generations behind you to know about serving?
That in order to preserve our cherished democracy, we need a military dedicated to defending life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as espoused in our Constitution. Our country faces many threats today, especially from misguided, anti-democratic extremists. To ensure these antagonists don’t overturn our way of life and the freedoms we enjoy, we need to remain vigilant now and in the future.
What’s something you learned about yourself during the time you served or after?
That if I could be a responsible and effective service member miles from home, and for extended periods of time, I could do a good job anywhere. It taught me, at the tender age of 22, the importance of hard work and being accountable for my actions – traits that have served me well throughout my life.
What is the significance of Veterans Day for you?
To give thanks for the men and women service members, past and present, who have given their blood, sweat and tears to keep us free. Lady Liberty’s torch continues to burn brightly because we’ve answered the call to defeat evil wherever it threatened world peace. On a personal level, it also allows me to solemnly reflect on my Dad’s sacrifice and service in the Pacific theater during WWII.
